Insurance is a necessary element of everyone’s lives. Very often
it is a requirement we cannot avoid, for example car insurance, but that does not
mean we do not have a choice when it comes to insurance provider, cost and cover.
Most of us will have experienced the vast differences in insurance quotes when taking
out insurance, making it seem a game of chance. Independent financial advice can
make the process of selecting insurance less painful and ensure the right questions
are asked.
For most, the home and its contents are the most valuable assets we own and buildings and contents insurance
is therefore high up on the priority list. If you do not own your own home, you
may not need to take out buildings insurance, as rented property landlords often
pay for insurance separately.
In the event of legal action taken against you by a third party, liability insurance
is crucial and available within both forms of policy. Most household insurance policies
can include some form of legal costs cover for a range of needs, from employment
tribunals to Inland Revenue appeal proceedings.
Travel insurance is also becoming a must, but insurance cover varies hugely and
it is often not until a claim needs to be made that we realise how inadequate an
insurance policy is. With travel insurance, it is important to check conditions
applying to medical treatment and leisure activities.
In fact, with all types of general insurance policies, whether commercial insurance
or pet insurance, the devil is in the detail and without the right guidance, you
could find yourself lacking sufficient cover when you need it most.
